Cloud computing is a generic term used for the delivery of hosted services over the Internet. It provides aninfrastructure for resource sharing, software hosting and service delivering in a pay as you go model which makes it veryeasy and economical. It is a challenge in cloud computing to distribute work load among all incoming requests and balancethose requests. To tackle this Load balancing technique is used which uses multiple nodes and distributes dynamic workloadamong the nodes so that no single node is under loaded or over loaded. Load balancing allows the resources to be used aptlywhich enhance the performance of the system and minimize carbon emission. This paper studies various load balancingalgorithms and gives a comparison among these algorithms on the basis of different qualitative metrics likeoverhead, performance, reliability, scalability, throughput etc.
