Wind turbine generators (WTGs) are usuallycontrolled to generate maximum electrical power from windunder normal wind conditions. With the increasingpenetration of wind power into electric power grids, energystorage devices will be required to dynamically match theintermittency of wind energy. To meet the requirements offrequency and active power regulation, energy storagedevices will be required to dynamically match theintermittency of wind energy. A novel two-layer constantpower control scheme for a wind farm equipped withdoubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines. It isconnected to the power grid at both stator and rotorterminals. The stator is directly connected to the grid whilethe rotor is fed through a variable-frequency dc-linkvoltage converter, which consists of a rotor-side converter(RSC) and a grid-side .converter .Each DFIG wind turbineis equipped with a super capacitor energy storage system(ESS) and is controlled by the low-layer WTG controllersand coordinated by a high-layer wind-farm supervisorycontroller (WFSC). The proposed system and controlscheme provides a promising solution to help achieve highlevels of penetration of wind power into electric powergrids.
