Abstract

Integration of machining operation is mandatory in order to achieve desired manufacturing cost and time. It
includes improvement of tooling devices. It includes fixtures which help in locating clamps and supporting workpieces.
They play an important role in integration of operations. This project includes manufacturing of half end yoke which is a
part of universal joint. This aim gives rise to need of modifying the fixture due to its incapability towards integration of
operations. The primary objective of the project is to develop a fixture such that is will serve its functions and allow the
integrated operations to be performed so as to reduce the throughput time for propeller shaft. The fixture was designed
on basis of three principles namely location, support and clamping. The foremost concern during the designing phase
was that its operation should be easy and comfortable for the operator. After the design and manufacturing and design of
fixture it was put to test. The results of the test and inspections were positive. The design had several advantages but it
also gave rise to some of the limitations. There is a scope to overcome these limitations in future by improving on design.
