Abstract

The main objective of this study is to analyze physical characterization of recovered asphalt binder. Initially, job
mix formula was prepared and was laid at site near Wazirabad bypass, Pakistan in 2016. The asphalt core samples were
extracted after three years from the same site so that extracted bitumen properties can be compared with virgin bitumen
properties. The feasibility of recovered bitumen for the use in flexible pavement was tested according to AASHTO M-20
standardsand SEM analysis. The results indicated a slight decrease in ductility, durability and overall strength of bitumen
with varied angularity of threads.
