Abstract

Solid waste is the most important factor in the environment pollutant. These wastes containing thematerials like glasses, plastics, paper and food waste etc. The solid waste or degradable waste polluting the environmentcontinuously by the process of open dumping .In open atmosphere these are producing the CH4,CO2,N2 gases and it willaffect the lands by the way of leachate and etc. So the characterization of this waste is essential while transporting anddisposing. The solid wastes are taken from the hotels and house hold in around the Thanjavur district. Characterizationanalysis were done by six sample of solid wastes (Food waste, Kitchen wastes, night soil, vegetable waste and combinedwaste). In physical characterization, the density and moisture content are determined also in chemical characterizationvolatile combustible matter, Ash and carbon are determined. The digester model is created by the capacity of 25 lit watercanes and the gas storage balloon was created by using the bike tube. Following that the presence of CH4 for the varioustypes of solid wastes are calculated. Finally this report shows that the types of gases produced from the various types ofwastes with its quantification rates.
