Retaining wall is an important engineering structure to resist lateral forces for a mass of earth. Design ofretaining wall is complex because it depends on the shape as well as the condition of mass retained. Most of the time itsdesign is done with more factor safety which makes it uneconomical. In this study a 28-meter-high gravity retaining wallwhich was already constructed, was analyzed with Finite element software PLAXIS 3D and GeoStudio. The parameterscompared are vertical settlement, deflection of wall and stability of slope. It was concluded that factor of safety morethan three was adopted which makes it uneconomical.
