A cold room is a refrigerated enclosureintended for the storage of chilled and/or frozen foodstuffor other perishable items. Cold room is the storage facilitywhere large quantities of products could be stored forlonger duration at lower temperature. Cold chain is nowrecognized as a sunrise sector in India. The currentscenario reveals that there is a tremendous scope for thedevelopment of cold chain facilities and Cold Rooms formthe heart of the cold chain. The cold room like every otherrefrigerating systems of the same magnitude employs thevapor compression refrigeration cycle. Vapor compressionrefrigeration is widely used for air conditioning ofbuildings and automobiles. It is also used in domestic andcommercial refrigerators, large-scale warehouses forchilled or frozen storage of foods and meats, refrigeratedtrucks and railroad cars, and a host of other commercialand industrial services.
