Abstract

A MANET(Mobile Ad hoc network) consists of mobilenodes connected through wireless links. MANETs are selfconfiguring networks without having fixed infrastructure. Eachnode has to rely on other nodes to forward its data packets.Mobile ad hoc networks can function properly only ifparticipating nodes collaborate in routing and forwarding. Sincemost of the nodes are constrained by battery power andcomputing resource, few nodes may refrain to cooperate and donot forward packets destined for other nodes. This leads todegradation of the network performance. Selfish nodes do notconsume any energy such as battery power, CPU power andbandwidth for retransmitting the data packets of other nodesand they reserve them for themselves. In this paper we gi ve anoverview of Credit based techniques and reputation basedschemes used for detection of selfish nodes.
