Abstract
Shape memory alloys (SMA) are unique materials which have ability to undergo large deformations and alsoregain its undeformed shape by removal of stress or by heating. This unique property could be effectively utilized toenhance the safety of civil structures. This paper presents the fundamental characteristics of shape memory alloy andsome of the application of shape memory alloy in civil structures.
